( The Coconut House )
Known as the "Tree of Life", the coconut palm provides the basis for the "Les Artisans Lao" idea. In this workshop, one of Laos's cheapest and most plentiful natural resources is transformed into an amazing variety of quality handmade products. The shell of the coconut is used along with the fibre and wood to fashion toys, utensils, furniture, home decorations and commercial design features. Although the humble coconut provides the majority of the raw material required, trainees also learn here how to incorporate materials like egg shell, buffalo horn and bamboo into their products.
